Challenge / Goal
More and more data is being collected and analyzed in Basel-Stadt. Residents therefore need a better understanding of how this data is used. Furthermore, the trust of the population in the responsible handling of data is essential for a smart city. Open and transparent communication about the collection and use of data is therefore important.
Solution
In the Smart Street pilot project, the cantonal and urban development department is testing how it can make the collection of data in public spaces visible. Specifically, this is being done by marking sensors with pictograms and information by means of info signs. In addition, the current available data of the respective sensors will be published on the data portal data.bs and made accessible via QR code on site. Surveys will be conducted to determine how this transparency is received by the population. This experience will be used to create the conditions for the widespread introduction of signaling in public spaces.
