Traffic-dependent street lighting with the aim of demand-responsive lighting, energy savings and reduction of light pollution
Solution
With the help of two radar-based traffic counters, the lighting on Oberstrasse and Ahornstrasse is controlled depending on the volume of traffic. The two streets are divided into three zones. With the NovaLight software, the three zones, with different requirements, can be controlled independently of each other.
The traffic counters are located at the intersection of Oberstrasse/Vonwilstrasse and enable the counting of passing vehicles as well as the lowering of the street lighting in real time. Traffic volume-dependent lighting enables significant energy savings of up to 40% while ensuring adequate lighting levels thanks to dynamic adjustment relative to traffic.
Traffic volume dependent lighting complies with current standards and SLG recommendations 202. The control generates energy savings of about 40% and reduces light pollution accordingly. The major advantage of traffic volume-based lighting is that lighting levels can be adjusted dynamically without the need to install a motion sensor on each light pole. The solution is particularly suitable for main roads in municipalities and cities with irregular traffic.
This system is integrated into the NovaLight management platform, where the various operating parameters can be easily changed remotely. The software also makes it possible to check the energy savings measured on site.
